The Piñata ceremony 2015

The Piñata ceremony is a Sarasas Ektra School cultural tradition held once a year. After the final exams in the last Semester, Year 12 students farewell their juniors. The Director adapted this ceremony from the Mexican Piñata Fiesta. In Mexico, the Piñata is part of a birthday celebration, however here at Ektra it's part of the goodbye tradition for our Year 12 students. Heart shaped paper bags are filled with candy, snacks and powder and hung on rope lines across the crescent courts. When its time, all students are seated at the crescent court and the Year 12 students break the bags open by hitting them with sticks, letting the candy and fragrant powder fall to the sitting students. The candy is a symbol of student relationships. A good feeling is passed from seniors to junior students at both Primary and Secondary. It also creates harmony between senior and junior students. Held only once a year, Year 12's recently enacted the Piñata ceremony on 13th February 2014.
