Empty Bucket Hero is an initiative from the Infant Department that supports students to finish and appreciate all the food that they are served. It is part of “No Left Overs” policy of Sarasas Ektra School that teaches the students to know how to save, to think of others and have their own virtue in consuming things for their daily lives.
At the beginning of July 2015, the Infant Department started the ‘Empty Bucket Hero’ initiative. KG.1-KG.3 participated. Each classroom received one empty bucket with their classroom name tag on it. At lunch time, students who didn’t finish their food would throw their left overs into their bucket. Teachers recorded to see how much left over food in each class bucket and at the end of each month will check to see which classroom has least left overs. They’ll be declared the winners. The winning class can choose to do the activity that they would like such as watching their favorite cartoons, play games or requesting a special snack etc.
In conclusion the Infant Department has observed that students finally finish all their food because of the motivation of this initiative. During the first week there was left overs in the buckets, but within 2-3 weeks, students had reduced the amount of left overs or almost no left overs at all. A great initiative and a good way to teach young children the importance and value of food!
