Let's do it! Kid's Camp 2015 (Primary Dept.)

         Primary Department ran the “Let's do it!” Kid's Camp 2015 for Yr.1-Yr.3 students from 5th -9th October 2015. Teachers organised students into eight groups and the activities into eight bases. Students took turn at each base until they’d visited everyone.

- Blast off base:
          This base gave students knowledge of wind power. Students folded a paper and drew a rocket. After that they did an experiment on wind power by attaching a balloon to the top of the rocket and a straw to the balloon. Tying a rope into the straw and tighten it on the walls of both sides, the students blew their rockets to see which one went farthest.

- Nature Detective base:
         Students were taught about Nature, such as looking at the nature of a worm or an earthworm in a container that teachers pre-prepared. Students practiced coloring animals and leaves. They also practiced drawing the human structure, school’s environment and folded paper into animal shapes.

- Creative Thinking Maths base:
          In this base, students learnt to calculate numbers by using an abacus and created hats in many styles such as a rabbit, a butterfly, a lion, a house and a robot etc.

- Difference is Yes base:
         Students learnt about magnetic line of force, gravity, the North Pole, impulsion and experiment by mixing fillings and oil. Then using magnet to impulse until it turned to the shape from the impulsion.

- Fantastic Chef base:
         Students learnt the steps in making a three layered jelly, and also making jelly into a rose shape. After the jelly solidified, students ate them as a snack.

- Back to the past base:
         Students learnt to create a watch such as a digital watch, a sandglass. Students also watched a video about telling time in the past where you could float a coconut shell to tell the time in the past and students got to invent a hanging watch.

- Space base:
         Students watched a video about solar system in both Thai and English languages and also invented their own comet. Students used three sheets of aluminum foil, three colors of ribbon (blue, gold, red), three ropes and scotch tape. After tightening the rope with the ribbons and crunching foil into a ball shape on the connection between the rope and the ribbon, stuck together with scotch tape. It could be compared with a meteor.

- Adventure base:
         Students practiced memorizing through playing a game. The teacher asked students from each group to choose a label from 1-10. Then the teacher asked students to walk on the label until they walked to the finish line. Students could not walk on the label that had a bomb. If a student walked on a bomb label, student had to go back to the starting line and another friend began to play. They had to remember where the bombs were and avoid them unless they wanted to go back to the start!

         Teachers also took students on a field trip to the Kids Museum and Family Learning Center in Thungkhru District on 8th October 2015. Students visited many activity: the BTS sky train base, the gel candle base, the fancy mask base, the science base, the human evolution base, the natural disaster base, natural study base, the community base and the waste segregation base. Students showed their interest in the above activities and enjoyed learning.
