The Primary and Secondary Departments of Sarasas Ektra School held Songkran activities including bathing a Buddha image with water, splashing each other with water and enjoying the happiness and culture of Songkran from 7th -10th April 2015. It was important for our Thai students to learn and practice Thai Culture and old traditions for use in the future. Here where our school Songkran Activities:
On 7th - 8th April students carried sand to the temple, made sand castles and sculptures, played hobbyhorse riding using banana plant fronds, hiding a coloured handkerchief behind your back, making a carp fish using banana leaves as well as traditional games such as sack-races and flag races.
On 9th April school continued the traditional games for students, bringing harmony to everyone and conserving traditional Thai games such as popping balloons by sitting on them, racing with a newspaper sheet on your chest without dropping it.
The school invited 9 monks on 10th April to pray Bahum and collect alms offered by teachers and students for luck in the Thai New Year. Merit was also made for teachers who passed way. In the afternoon, teachers and students bathed a Buddha image with water and poured water over teacher’s hands. There was a Miss Songkran parade and the final activity that everyone had waited was playing Songkran. Students, Thai and foreign teachers joined together splashing water and playing with fun and happiness.
