On the 24th of June 2016, Sarasas Ektra School celebrated Sunthorn Phu Day on the ground floor of St. John the Baptist building. The celebration started at 14.00 and finished at 15.30. One purpose was to commemorate the birthday of world-renowned Thai poet Sunthorn Phu, which occurs on the 26th of June every year. The other purpose was to propagate his literary work among the public. The following are some events held during the celebration.
The celebration started with a laudatory speech dedicated to the poet. Then, Miss Jessada Pacharoen recited a Sepa, an ode to the poet.
The recitation was followed by the stage play “Phra Aphai Mani Flees the Ogress Phisua Samut”, an episode of the Phra Aphai Mani saga, performed by junior and senior secondary students. The performance focused on the use of the English language and musical accompaniment, which school regards as its strength and identity.
Then there was a quiz game, which asked students questions about the poet and gave the participants Thai traditional desserts as prizes. The presentation of certificates to the winners of the Sunthorn Phu poetry writing contest marked the end of the activity.
The following are winners of the poetry writing contest.
