World Cultural Day 2017

Our school has always been proud of the different nationalities of our students and teachers and would like the students to be aware of cultural diversity and cultural acceptance. In support of the United Nation (UN)’s  ultimate aims which are to maintain international peace and security, and to develop friendly relations among nations on the basis of equality and the principle of self-determination, School organised World Cultural Day 2017 activity on November 24th , 2017 at Infant and Primary Campus (Soi 20)  and Secondary Campus. There were various interesting activities held in the build up to the event as detailed below.

For Infant and Primary Campus (Soi 20):

All students began their journey around the world at Ektra International Airport (EIA), where teachers imitating airport staff discussed the importance of learning about different cultures and maps.  Joined by Nursery, KG 1-3 and Years 1 to 6, all the students were given the opportunity to experience different activities from our bases. In total there were 20 countries represented and each base was run by either a combination of Parents, Foreign and/or Thai teachers. The students rotated around 5 different bases and had the chance to eat something different, do a craft, dance and learn something new.

The countries represented this year are detailed as follows:

          •   Ektra International Airport - the start of the journey and map reading
          •   Under St. Dominic 2 Bldg.- China (food and culture), Japan (craft and culture), Korea (food and culture)
          •   Under St. Dominic 1 Bldg. - Germany (food and culture), Switzerland (food and culture), Spain (food and culture), Italy (food and photo dress up), Ireland (craft and culture), Taiwan (food and culture)
          •   Crescent Court 1 (Sport Zone) - U.S.A (basketball), England (rugby) and Canada (street hockey)
          •   Crescent Court 2 (Dance and Craft zone) - South Africa (food and language), Uganda (dance), Kenya (craft), Philippines (dance and games), India (dance)
          •    Building 4 - Thailand (drinks), U.S.A (food), and International music

For Secondary Campus:

The Crescent Court and the breeze ways of the Saint John the Baptist Bldg. were transformed into an international pavilion which showcased a mélange of cultures from all continents. The celebration also included the following shows;       an entertaining Khon performance directed by Mr Chaiwat, a nostalgic ‘Pukul-Thong’ - a Thai folk-tale narrated by Miss Pinyada Pongsabus, various exhibits of colorful traditional costumes, exotic food and dances from East-Asian to South American countries prepared by each class. A quiz-trivia game was also held which kept the audience on their toes. The program concluded with the singing of One Big Family (the theme song of the activity) by selected students and members of the Ektra Chorus accompanied by the Sarasas Ektra band. Both Thai and foreign teachers proudly paraded their exquisite national costumes to the delight and applause of the students.

It was indeed a colorful and meaningful celebration of cultural diversity. Not only did it dazzle the senses but more importantly it instilled deep appreciation and understanding of the different cultures to everyone involved.  School would like to thank all the parents who kindly volunteered their time and energy to making this event spectacular. All our students had a great time and will remember their experiences for a long time.
