Feast Day and Teacher Appreciation Day for Academic Year 2018

Sarasas Ektra School arranged the feast day and teacher appreciation day for the academic year 2018 to let all students express respect and gratitude to Our Lady Mary and the Saints for the blessing of administrators, teachers, students, and ancillary staff, and to let all students recall teachers’ benevolence, as this is a way of carrying on good Thai culture.

The Kindergarten department held their activities on Thursday June 14th. Primary and secondary departments held theirs on Thursday June 21st. This year, we were honoured by Father Panomkorn Sangawongse to preach the homily to the students. Next, all students and student representatives took an oath, then watched a play, “Anything but Mediocre”. After this, there was a handwashing ceremony, and then an award presentation for students who received scholarship and different awards. Additionally, alumni representatives also joined the activities andpresented garlands to the administrators. Finally, all students sang the song “The Third Gratitude” and the Thai Royal Anthem.

Father Panomkorn Sangawongse’s Homily

“Good morning all administrators, teachers, and students. I have a story which I would like to tell everyone. Imagine a Chinese family consisting of the parents and two children. The elder child is self-willed and never obedient to parents. The younger child is obedient to parents and puts all the teaching of the parents into practice. One day, the parents give both children bamboo trees. The parents tell each of their children to grow bamboo trees. The first child does not do so, but the younger child is obedient and grows bamboo trees beside the house’s wall. Time passes, and the bamboo trees grow and become a food source for the younger child. The elder child does not have any food sources and must ask the younger child for food. After some time, the bamboo trees get even bigger so that the younger child can utilize the bamboo trees for building a small hut for getting some shade during his outdoor work. Additionally, the younger child also uses some small sticks of bamboo to make some accessories,
such as rice-winnowing baskets, wicker baskets, or Chinese-style baskets for storing some gadgets. The elder child would like to have some of the bamboo trees, but the younger child does not give them. The younger child says “if you want to have bamboo trees, you need to grow them yourselves”. When the bamboo trees expand and become more in numbers, the younger child can sell some of the bamboo trees at the market, and some of them for building a fence to prevent some dangerous animals from getting inside the house. The younger child gains so many benefits from the bamboo trees. This is a result of obedience. Because the elder children is not obedient, he does not get any benefits. The younger child is obedient, so he receives many benefits such as food, a house, different gadgets, and also income from the grown bamboo trees.

Today, we receive a bamboo tree and we are free to choose which we will be, either the elder or the younger child. This story teaches us that we will receive benefits if we are obedient to teachers, just like the younger child. He does not know that what his parents are giving to him is the most valuable thing in his life, but he chooses to learn and he, therefore, can live his life well. This is similar to every student today. You receive a bamboo tree from your teachers who guide you. You have someone to teach and make you a good and intelligent person. You can improve your life. Please be a good member of our society and share love with each other. God Bless.

The Director, Mr. Pisut Yongkamol 's Teaching

Good morning. There is a message that I would like to leave with all teachers. We are the first bilingual school in Thailand. We do not separate ourselves and we treat everyone equally, regardless of skin color and ethnicity.  We do not segregate and we do not bully. These are what I would like every teacher to teach to all students. Please teach them to respect and love others in the way that they like to be treated by others. Today, I am very thankful to Father Panomkorn. He has sacrificed his valuable time to travel to Bangkok for all Ektra students. He puts on the hood just like in Harry Potter because he would like to pass on fable about the bamboo trees.

Teachers, please be a lighthouse that shines and guides all students. The lighthouse frequently encounters thunderstorms and rain, but it endures. Being teachers, you receive so much respect and honor. Congratulations to all teachers who are greeted by many alumni. You have done your job by bringing them across the sea and finally reached the land, and they come back to you. They do not forget you. Teachers are the same to elder relatives who are sometimes grumbling. All students, please believe, your teachers have passed so many things. They have good will, just like Jesus who gives loves and can sacrifice for all men. All teachers, thank you very much. God bless you. Also thank you very much Father Panomkorn.
