The Speech of Mr. Pisut Yongkamol, The Director
Delivered in the Parent Meeting of Academic Year 2018

Hi everyone. I am very grateful that all of you have sacrificed your valuable time to join our meeting today. There are both new and current students here. Welcome everyone. My name is Pisut Yongkamol. I am the Director of the school. However, you will not see me very often.

You might already know that Sarasas is now the largest school network in Thailand, having almost one hundred thousand students. Sarasas Ektra is also Thailand’s first bilingual school. Every year, we have many students graduating, and we hope that they are filled with moral principles, discipline, and love toward their school.

A while ago, Mr. Allen mentioned Code-Switching, which occurs when one parent speaks Thai, while the other speaks English to the children. Code-Switching results in faster-than-usual connection of the left and right brain. Imagination is also important. If you stop imagining, the left and right brain will lack connection. According to M.I. (Multiple Intelligences) theory, a person can have so many skills. However, all these skills would not be of any advantage if you cannot utilize them. This circumstance is reflected in a Thai aphorism: “cannot survive though flooded with knowledge”. This is a reason why I urge my students to watch less television. If we let our children watch television too much, their imagination will suffer. In contrast, their imagination will improve if they read. So I encourage parents to teach your children to read, as well as with playing games and watching television.

Your children need quality time. They would not fully understand parents’ love, but they can sense it when you give them hugs without having to say anything and without having to teach them how to imagine love. Nevertheless, some children lack quality time and love, and use imagination in wrong ways due to lack of love from their parents. You might see a puppy’s shadow projected onto a screen and interpret it to be a big dog. Another one is a cat, but it thinks of itself as a tiger. When a cat and a dog fight, which side would win do you think? Yes, it is the cat, because the cat fights as if a tiger, while the big dog fights as if a puppy. There is no way that the puppy wins. Think of our children as cats, and we reflect the truth to them. We teach them that they will be tigers one day, but we will not put any pressure on them.

I would like parents to watch a movie titled “The Hunt”. The movie is about the life of a kindergarten teacher who becomes ruined because of a kindergarten girl who has inappropriate imagination. Her inappropriate imagination has resulted from an incident in which she sees her brothers watching R-Rated movies. She imagines that her teacher is like the characters in those R-Rated movies and she tells this to other people. Even when all the circumstances are made clear, there are some people who still do not forgive the kindergarten teacher. Despite being incriminated and insulted verbally and physically, the kindergarten teacher decided to prove himself and encounter the truth. The little girl is not guilty, her imagination is, and this is caused by lack of guidance from her parents. Another good movie is “Wonder”. There is a boy named “Okky”. He has an ugly appearance, but he never blames his mom and dad. He has such a good mom and dad who always give him great support.

I am also grateful for all teachers who have come to support the meeting today. If there is any inconvenience, I apologize. I hope that you all at least get something from today. Even though it may not be essentially academic, it does yield some benefits. I am also very proud today to see one of my first cohort students, and now she is the mother of a student here. I would like to point out to all our teachers, that parents who have come today are so generous. I would like all teachers to respect them and do your best. Give great care to all their children, rewarding the trust which parents have placed in us. Thank you very much.
