On August 10th and 11th, 2018, Sarasas Ektra School conducted National Mother’s Day ceremonies in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The ceremony aimed to encourage students to express love and gratitude to their mothers and carers. The ceremonies were held in two sessions: morning and afternoon. In the morning, the different activities included the following:
The song “A Mother’s Love” and the “Im-Un” song
A Thai traditional musical performance about Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s work,
a performance by the Ektra Primary band of the “Or-Chao song with a modern dance accompaniment
The drama, “Ballad of a Mother’s Heart”, and
“Fon Ma Lai”, a Thai traditional dance performed by KG.3 students.
After these items, every student sang the song “We Love Mother” and listened to speeches delivered by students who won the English speech contests.
In the afternoon session on August 10th, 2018, Year 2 students and their mothers joined in activities together. Both mothers and students joyfully danced “Body Combat” and played two games; “Mother-Child Bond” and “Unity is Power”. After this, students sang a song “I love my Mommy” and gave their mother hugs and kisses on their cheeks. Everyone was so impressed.
Director Pisut Yonkgamol’s Speech
For National Mother’s Day of Academic Year 2018
August 12th of every year is Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s birthday, the Queen Consort of King Rama IX of the present dynasty. She is “the Mother of the Land”. Thai people wholeheartedly recognize her Royal Grace that brings prosperity to Siam.
“Mother” is a powerful word, even more powerful than “father”. Even though I am now a father, “mother” is still more powerful in my point of view. I have been chairing national Mother’s Day for more than 30 years. Ten years ago, two of my daughters sat here before me. I was strict to them in those days and talked to them with anger at times. If I could go back to that time, I would speak more gently to them.
Every word spoken by mothers and fathers to children is similar to nails hammered in to children’s hearts. When children are ill, positive reinforcement gives energy to them, so they are energized to fight against diseases.
I give support to all single mothers, who have so much strength to nourish their children well. My words also go to those children who are stubborn and disobedient, those who feel ashamed for not having beautiful or financially wealthy mothers. What mothers can do is only to be patient.
I would like every child to spend time with their mothers, give them hugs, enjoy meals with them, and recognize their kindness. One day, when you lose your mother forever, then you will start to realize, and you will not be able to get your mother back, no matter how hard you try. Therefore, no matter who your mothers are and what they look like, please keep in mind that they love you so much. Your mother sacrifices happiness, bears pain, and accepts physical changes during pregnancy, and nourishes you until you grow up.
Love your mother lots. Some of you are shy. A quick kiss on the cheek before a dash to your bedroom could simply make her smile. Please keep that in mind.
Today, I thank every mother and carer who has joined with us in our activities. All of you are so kind. I wish today to your day, not only National Mother’s Day.
Be good, children. Think about your mother and father before you do things.
God bless you.
