Summer English Course in UK (UK Academic Trip 2) - Enchanted England

From March 30th to April 24th, 2018 32 students and 3 teachers from Sarasas Ektra School and Sarasas Witaed Saimai School participated in the Summer English Course in Bury St. Edmund, England. The course was arranged by the cooperation of the schools and Vision UK Education Centre. Throughout the course, the Centre’s staff participated in the trips and helped take care of all the students.

During the first and second week, all the students had a chance to practise their English skills both inside and outside classroom lessons which were organized by BLS English Institute, an institute certified by the British Council of England. In the mornings of Monday to Friday, and all day on Saturday and Sunday, the students gained new experience from field trips to different important locations of England. These consisted of the following:
                   (1) A tour of London, in which students visited Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, the Natural History Museum and the Stamford Bridge Museum of Chelsea Football Club.
                   (2) The university city of Cambridge, visiting King’s College.
                   (3) Norwich, where they took part in sailing activities (a highlight) and visited Norwich Castle, the city’s historic museum (formerly a prison located on a hill).
                   (4) Oxford, where they visited Christ Church College of Oxford University, one of the world’s most famous universities.
                   (5) Suffolk, visiting Lavenham Village with its 15th century buildings still in use. The village was used in filming one of the Harry Potter, films, and
                   (6) Watford, where students visited the Warner Brothers studios, including the Harry Potter Studio and the filming locations of the Harry Potter movies.

In the 3rd week, the students were able to participate in activities with the local students at Risby Primary School and Mildenhall College Academy.

Students not only improved their English skills and cultural competence, but also their leadership, conflict management, teamwork and self-adjustment skills through developmental activities at PGL Youth Centre such as Archery, Tree Climbing, Aeroball, Sensory Trail, Fencing, Survivor, Buggy Building, and Jacob’s Ladder.
