Director Speech: Year 12 Graduation Conferral 2014

Hello students. Today’s idea is: ‘walk with concentration’ and read more books, three or four lines is better than nothing because you use your brain when you are reading. An author wants you to read and read everything in the book. When you read a book, I believe that you will read at least half of it, no matter whether it is a feature article or novel, it is good to get a chance to continue reading it either two or three pages more. People nowadays read or get to know other people from external observations and jump to a conclusion that he or she is bad or good. Reading just a few sentences of news without finishing an article and telling others about it, or they read only one lesson from twelve and drawing a conclusion is superficial. Our body is always changing our thoughts without notice; it is how we develop to survive. When we see an accident, or face any accident, our instincts change us. It is the information from our eyes watching, hands touching, feet running and stomach being full or empty and so on. Use your five senses, so every minute up until now, you can still learn and walk forward while concentrating.

I read one book many years ago called ‘The Conspiracy Theory.’ This theory starts from the micro and goes to the macro: from small to big. It is a plan of large western countries because they need workers. Labor cost is high. It cannot be compared with the cost of labor in Asia, so they support Asia to create graduates for them. They know that we cannot invent and there is a limit in the terms of quality we produce. We follow their education. I read about it. They set their education, economics, finances and society. They know what Thai people think and how. It is like they know how to meddle in our politics. Nowadays laborers seem so low-class. If you ask about the definition of labor, who can answer? In my opinion, everyone needs to use their body to work, but in different ways. A doctor does not plant rice as well as farmer. A doctor cannot hit a nail, mix cement and build a house. A computer programmer cannot sail a boat and catch fish. There are many people who say if you cannot do it, just hire someone who can. It is an answer without thinking. If we have knowledge and believe and truly understand religion, we will understand it without getting lost. Being human, we should not look down on other occupations, religions or beliefs that are different from us. Whoever is poorer, uglier or less smart than us, may be happier and benefit society more than us. They may make more merit than us. Thai society usually thinks of the result of action rather than finding what the cause is and accept to improve. I would like to leave the idea of respecting other occupations. University is a place to build the next step for all of you. I hope you learn everything you need to learn. Think more of good things; do well, so that you will be happy and successful.

Today is the last day that you have to wear the uniform that you might be bored with by now. You are bored to iron it, bored to sew on a button and bored with the shoes and the necktie. Today you have freedom and don’t have to wear it any longer. However when you take off your uniform or you burn it, it is up to you, but it won’t change your blood, your ideas are what makes you smart. Never say ‘I was once an Ektra kid,’ rather I was, I am, I will be and I will always be. You cannot say you were an Ektra student just so you can collect your certificate. In the future all Ektra kids will walk smartly in society. If you do well, think well, although you won’t study in the top five universities or top ten, you don’t have to feel ashamed. I always told everyone that I didn’t graduate from a big university in Thailand. It was a regular college, but I am proud with myself. A person who is good will be good by himself, a person who is bad will be bad by himself. You’ve walked half way through your life and education. Whatever is left is up to you to accomplish. Will you walk smart or walk slovenly, it is up to you. . I hope today is a day of curios. Whoever looks down at you, let them be, but do not look down at yourself, your parents or your old school. Whatever Ektra students do always, be happy and successful. Today is last time I, Director Pisut Yongkamol, speak to Year 12 students. Please remember my words. Today, if at least 10 students remember my speech and use it, I will be happy. Thank you for listening. Please keep the respect of blue and yellow and you won’t regret to say that you are from Ektra. Although they will be past memories, it’s the past which lets us know each other. I hope Virgin Mary and Saint Dominico Savio protect all of you with happiness and success. Hope your family has love and warmth. Good luck and good bye.
