What did they learn?
On Wheels Ahead this year the children learnt all about the our planet and its position in the solar system. They also learnt all about the sky and how we can move through the sky.
There were four bases and the children rotated between them on a daily basis.
Base 1: The Solar System
The children learnt the names, position and special characteristics of the planets in our solar system. The children made a beautiful solar system poster, which will help them remember the order and what they look like.
Base 2: History of air travel
The students learnt all about the history of air travel. They learnt about what history is and means and some events that have taken place in the past. They all designed, decorated , built and tested their own kites.
Base 3: My own Planet!
The children were encouraged to tap into their imaginations to create a new planet. They need to think creatively to think about what characteristics their planet had. They needed to able to speak confidently about it.
Finally, all the children made their own planet using the paper mache technique. After it set they had to paint and decorate it.
Base 4: My own country
The children learnt all about different vocabulary that we use at the airport and vocabulary used to describe a country. The children learnt about the national flag, airline and currency from five different countries. Finally the children made their own country, which included their own flag, currency and airline.
TRIPS
• National Science museum / Planetarium.
- Students got to look at some at some of Thailand’s national products , star
constellation and have a go at some science experiments.
• Thai National Aeroplane Museum.
The children went to learn about the history of air travel in Thailand and a globally. A huge focus on history. They got to look at the different pants of a plane and helicopter and go inside a real Thai Royal Air Force aeroplane.
• Kidzania
The children had the opportunity to do a range of occupations. Many of the children experienced being a pilot or cabin crew.
The children would have gain confidence in speaking to others. They had an opportunity to try new things and be independent with little allowed support from teacher or staff.
English Acceleration 2015
The shop
The theme this year was shopping. The students learnt about different kinds of shops and what they sell there. They also learnt how to earn camp money by working hard and how to save the money.
The students rotated through many bases and used English to learn about many new things. These included making a bracelet and a bag for a souvenir a shop. Learning how to set up a menu and make sushi for a food shop. Learning how to take care of pets for a pet shop. Making play doh , slime and a board game for a toy shop. The students also learnt how to design a shop of their own and make a model of it. All of these bases helped the students to practice and expand their abilities in English in a fun and practical way that they can apply when using English in life.
We went on four trips during the camp. The first was to the Bank of Thailand where we learnt about the history of Money in Thailand. The second was to the Royal Chitralada Gardens where we learnt how the King has help farmers throughout Thailand improve their farming methods and sell their produce. The third trip was to Kidzania where the students had the opportunity to work in the many different shops that are set up there. The fourth and final trip was to the park where the students learnt to relax and enjoy nature other working hard to get their shows ready. We offer working hard to get their shows ready. We then went to eat pizza where the students learnt how hard people have to work it their shop is full.
