Father’s Day Celebration

Father’s Day Celebration – National Father's Day is on the 5th December of every year and coincides with King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Birthday. Thai citizens celebrate by wearing the King’s yellow colour which is one of the traditions of Father’s Day. Sarasas Ektra Secondary Department hosted a Father’s Day themed ‘Do as Dads Do’ on 3rd December 2014 at the Auditorium for students to honor the King’s hard work and efforts and to recall the Royal Grace of His Majesty who always takes good care of his citizens. Students also showed their love and gratefulness to their fathers and emphasized they would be good kids for their parents. A variety of shows honored our King and all fathers. They included a short Drama showed entitled “Why do you often bully him?”, a You Tube clip from Miss Kulissara Charoa-Ungsuthorn of Y.12F with her father, Miss Suryanshi Singh of Y.10A spoke about her feelings for her father and a beautiful performance of the song “The Dream of a Father” by Miss Chanyanuch Udompornkul from Y.9B. The Director was invited to present certificates to students who won the various Father’s Day Competitions:

Director Speech: Father’s Day 2014

Dear parents, alumni, teachers, and students, today is another good day. Everything we saw today was an important lesson for all students. From preparing the event, practicing the shows and the contests to today we can see the combined effort altogether. I see that students have lots of abilities. It’s the qualities of students that made me happy and proud for all fathers and mothers. One thing I would like to teach you today is having understanding and sympathy for others. An easy example:

The King saw poor people and he knew that they suffered.
It was an understanding. He knew that they worked on farms.
If they did not have water, they could not grow rice.
No food to eat. Growing rice but having none to eat.
Having lots of debt and the creditors try to get their money back.
The King tried to find a way to help.
This was sympathy.

He sacrificed until he had no property left because when he had some, he gave all to his people. This was a good example of what I would like students to see.

Many days ago, I was reading the newspaper and found 2 new words. They were “Realizing Happiness” and “Realizing Unhappiness” . It was a language theory to realize the truth. What we saw today on a stage was “Realizing Happiness”. It smelled good, sweet, happy, beautiful sounds and the weather was cool. All 5 senses were good. What is “Realizing Unhappiness?”……. It is the opposite. It is true, but the opposite. As I saw in the newspaper examples for both: such as someone won the lotto and received many millions of baht. If he is already rich, he will be richer. In another section of the newspaper was a picture of the family that had a mother and daughter crying next to the dead body of her son who was a volunteer for Poh Teck Tung Foundation. He was shot. The pictures were put next to each other. It showed the truth of happiness and unhappiness. I talked about this story today because I do not want to see Ektra’s students see everything only from the eyes of happiness. Sometimes we concentrate on the happiness too much, so we forget about sympathizing for others. Just like our King sympathizes with all Thai citizens.

All teachers have created quality people of Thailand under H.M. King. We have to teach students to know that the coin has two sides. Life cannot be only happiness. I hope teachers always train the students to understand life has another side. I would like to compliment on the story that was just performed. Good pronunciation. I am proud of your show. You are creating a new phenomenon in Thai society because it is clear that our school is the first school that set up a clear goal of ‘No Bullying’ in school. The person who sees bullying and acts as a by stander, who does not want to help is doing wrong. Someone sees and only understands it, needs to have sympathy as well. Understanding that they are bullied, and they are hurt, so we have to stop bullying. We have to know our friends. One thing you have to be proud of is that we might not have perfect friends, but we can stand them. We can live with them, so this is an absence of bullying. God always teaches us to love others like you love yourself. Treat others like you treat yourself. Today, if your friend’s father comes, please do not tease your friends. Anyone who likes to tease is not really growing up. You should go back to study at Primary. If someone was like that, I will have to warn you as a father. Some were good, and made me proud, but some gossiped, and kept moving. It was not a good example. You made our father, our King, not happy. My speech today is about complaining and advising. Hope students remember. Not only understanding, but helping others too. Being someone who sympathizes, understands and helps others is our aim. Society will be happy if we can all do this. All teachers please use it as a main policy of school, to make us successful.

On Father’s day, I pray for all of you to be good kids for your father and mother. I wish for your family happiness. I hope you love your father and your mother very much. I hope you are a nice person for you family. Thank you students for your attending. Thank you fathers and I am acting in your position today. I might be too strict, but I would like your kids to be good: growing up to be gentlemen and ladies. Thank you for spending your valuable time to join this celebration. For students who your fathers come today, please be proud. Don’t be shy that your fathers came. Your Father is your father! You only have one father, and one mother. Your father loves you very much. Thank you to all teachers, management who made today’s event successful. I wish for your happiness and success. I hope god, Mother Mary and Saint Dominico Savio bless us all.
